One Final Kick: Ryan Sarault Returns to the Field

By Luke Eliser | Oct 1, 2026 8:44 AM

Portage senior goalkeeper Ryan Sarault has spent four years dedicating himself to the Portage Boys Soccer program, but his senior season took an unexpected turn when he suffered a broken jaw against Andrean, bringing his season to an abrupt end. Despite the injury, Ryan continued to support his teammates and remain a part of the program. With the cooperation of the officials and the opposing team, Ryan was given the opportunity to step onto Les Klein Field one more time. Ryan took the opening kickoff, sent the ball out of bounds, and was then subbed out — a simple moment that carried much more meaning than a normal kickoff. It gave him the chance to officially take the field one final time at the place where he had spent four years competing, training, and representing Portage. Ryan’s season may not have ended the way he envisioned, but his perseverance and commitment to his teammates never changed. His return to the field served as a reminder that being part of a team is about much more than minutes played or games won. Four years of dedication. One difficult setback. And one final moment on Les Klein Field that Ryan Sarault will always be able to call his own.
