The Freshman football team traveled to LaPorte on Thursday to take on the Slicers. The Indians took home a victory defeating LaPorte 44 to 22. The game started off big for the Indians with Darion Green recovering an onside kick. Two plays later Terrell Craft charged into the end-zone with a 22-yard touchdown run. The first of three touchdowns for Craft on the night.
Quarterback Colton Wilkie scored on a fake toss, quarterback keeper with less than 2-minutes in the first half to extend the Indians lead to 24 to 6 going into half-time. In the dying seconds of the 3rd quarter, Wilkie connected with Antoine Pierson for a long touchdown pass.
D’Juan Washington played a good game at middle linebacker, but had a great game at fullback. Washington setup key blocks for his teammates, but also rumbled on the ground picking up big yards and points.
The Defense was puzzled early in the game, thanks to LaPorte implementing a solid game plan of attacking the outside with runs and some big passes. The Red Scare Defense eventually decided that enough was enough, they hunkered down, and forced LaPorte to run between the tackles. Big defensive plays were made all night by Charlie Corona, Aiden Barney, Treston Dusendang, and Carlos Willer.
With this win the Portage Freshman football team ended their season with 7 wins and 1 loss and a share of the Duneland Athletic Conference Championship !
Coach Ramsey, Coach Mattix, Coach Flacco, & Coach Soyka want to thank the freshman football athletes for an amazing season !
