Swim Competes at Sectional Prelims

The boys’ swim team competed in the preliminary round of the state sectionals on Thursday night.  We had many swimmers set PR’s in this round even though we swim against some very tough competition.  Ricky Del Real had a great night.  He is now the third fastest 50 freestyler and 100 butterflyer in school history.

Coach Vega Voted as Coach of the Year

Wrestling coach, Leroy Vega has been voted by the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches’ Association as Coach of the Year.  He will receive his award Sunday, Feb. 22 at the IHSWCA banquet.  Coach Vega and the wrestling team won the Duneland Athletic Conference Championship, Sectionals, and Regionals this year.  Six wrestlers will be competing at

Portage’s Gaige Torres won the 126lb title at the IHSAA Semi-State in Merrillville Saturday by defeating Lake Central’s Branden Truver.  Torres earned his spot in the championship match by defeating Lafayette Jeff’s Austin McGreevy, Rochester’s John Hunting and Jason Crary from Munster in his earlier matches.   As a team, Portage finished 3rd overall and advanced six
