The Portage boys basketball team lost a hard-fought game to one of the areas best teams on Saturday night to the Munster Mustangs 62-52. The Indians missed a 3-point shot with a little over a minute to go in the game that would have tied the score and the Mustangs iced the game hitting key free throws down stretch for the win. Xavier Aponte led the Indians in scoring with 30 points (including 8 out of 12 from 3-point range) followed by Blake Creech 10, Kamari Slaughter 6, and Nate Orosz 6. Slaughter led in rebounds with 6, while Slaughter and Miguel Verduzco led in assists with 4 each. Isaiah Mayes Danny Bruno, Sean Claussen and Jordan Tidwell contributed solid minutes for Portage. The Indians will play their first home game of the season next Saturday night December 7, when they host Hammond Gavit.
