Moran and Washington Shine at Brecksville

Jacob Moran and DJ Washington led the Indian wrestling team to a 12th place finish out of 51 teams, including four InterMat Fab Fifty teams. Jacob Moran returned to the finals for the second year in a row. DJ Washington joined his teammate in the finals.

Washington, First

DJ Washington registered four straight falls to set himself up with a Semifinal match against a foe that he faced last year, David Cumberledge of St. John, OH. Washington registered three takedowns, a set of nearfall, and an escape in the match to win 9-5. The semifinal win for Washington set up a nationally ranked contest against Detroit Catholic Central’s Kevon Davenport (ranked #5 at 145lbs according to Intermat).

Davenport and Washington wrested to a scoreless first period and Washington took bottom to start the second. He escaped within fifteen seconds of the restart for the second period. Was warned twice for stalling in the period and the match was tied at one to start the 3rd. Davenport chose bottom and Washington rode for thirty seconds before electing to be neutral with Davenport. Davenport led until Washington created motion and a shot by Washington was stopped. Washington then came up to his feet and utilized some Greco Roman skills to throw Davenport to his back for the takedown and two nearfall.

DJ also won the Most Falls competition for the tournament registering 4 falls in a total of 10:34.

Moran Falls Just Short

Jacob Moran turned in two falls to start the tournament for the Indians. He then took a 13-7 decision and followed that up with a 4-3 semifinal win over nationally ranked Jacob Moon of Clay. In the finals, Moran had a rematch with last years champion Jacob Decatur of CVCA, another nationally ranked competitor. Moran started this match off scoreless through the first. Decatur quickly scored an escape in the second and added a takedown making it 3-0 to end the second. Moran scored an escape quickly in the third and added a penalty point for stalling against Decatur. Decatur took the win 3-2 at the end of the match.
